"In The Name of God, The Compassionate, The Merciful ”
Safeguarding the Selected Theme of 2017
A Common Professional Responsibility
Once again the anniversary of the "World Veterinary Day" has provided us the opportunity to revive and represent the role of veterinary profession in the life of mankind in the field of safeguarding the health and natural environment all over the world.
"The World Animal Association", since the year 2000 has been celebrating the last Saturday of April as the "World Veterinary Day" and each year has introduced a selected Theme to highlight the global priorities in the field of vet. Medicine.
The selected Theme for the year 2017 has been chosen as "ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE – FROM AWARENESS TO ACTION". Undoubtedly this further reiterates the need of the world to focus on need of collective works to prevent the dangerous spread antimicrobial resistance.
In the past 70 years, we have been observing a great evolution in global health. The new definition for the health, goes beyond the known issues like lack of diseases and inabilities and body insufficiencies. Nowadays the proper health is referred to phenomenon like complete social welfare and psychological safety as well as desirable economic life.
In today's world we are still confronted with long existing fatal infectious and zoonotic disease. At the same time we are faced with many non infectious diseases, so-called silent diseases, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, bone decalcification and antimicrobial resistance which are seriously threatening the human life.
Climate changes and environmental destabilization along with new-emerging and re-emerging diseases are contributing to further deepening of the problem of ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE.
To fully realize the meaning of the theme of ANTIMICROBIAL we must have a universal and thoughtful view for the issue of microbe.
In this direction, it is necessary to build up concrete bridge between the human and animal medicines as well as food and general health, agriculture and micro organisms especially in the natural environment.
There is no doubt this can be promoted only through a full attention to new-emerging and re-emerging diseases along with focussing on new methods to manage and fight the disease-causing microorganisms.
The experience of countries which have successfully implemented the national health schemes shows that the safety of human being as well as the animals and even the plants must be taken into account in the form of a network system.
Obviously this ideal aim, cannot be conformed only through integrated organization and it needs interstructural uniformity and understandings.
Unfortunately so far no specific measure has been undertaken to bring such noble goal into realization.
In the meantime, education is regarded as a fundamental partner "on Health” programmes, including those related to microorganisms resistance.
Proper education can very much contribute to enhancement of efforts to control and eradicate zoonotic diseases and to prohibit the creation of antibiotical resistance as well as promotion of health and food security and managing natural disasters like earthquakes and flooding.
In the selected theme of 2017, the importance and necessity of constant and comprehensive education is crystal clear.
The organization of I.R.Iran Veterinary Council, founded in 1997, is performing the important and sensitive national duty of desciplinizing the professional activities of private veterans.
This organization. Enjoying more than 36 thousands full members, has officially announced, undertaking a comprehensive education as on the top of its agenda implement national health programmes.
In this direction, a large variety of educational courses and workshops are arranged by well- known international scholars to help thousands of members to upgrade their professional knowledge and improve their capabilities.
I deeply hope the health programmes designed to overcome antimicrobial resistance more than ever is brought into the daily life of the people and the care for the health of human being as well as the animals, plants and natural environments shall be the most serious anxiety for everyone in every part of the world.
Dr.M.R.Safari
